Learning Process

Language learning process should be fun, that's what I always think. Language isn't math, nor science; you can't memorize a formula and use it to solve the problems. Language is alive, the more you speak it, the better you'll be.

There are a lot of ways to learn a language. Before anything, I think the most important thing is that you have the interest. There will be no progress if you're forced to learn it. Only when you're interested in it, you can learn it better.

Memorizing grammar and vocabularies isn't the first thing you should do when you're learning a language. There are 4 skills in a language; listening, speaking, reading, writing. I do think that listening comes before the rest of the 4 skills. Only when you're listening to the natives, you know how to pronounce the words and eventually you'll get the hang of it.

Try to get more chances to speak is the best way to get better in speaking. Being in Malaysia, it may need a little effort to create an English speaking environment. But if you're lucky enough to have a group of supportive friends, or a group of friends who have the same passion with you, you'll level up pretty soon.
Even when you're alone, there are still ways to learn. Find an English speaking video, and repeat after what the person said. When you're in an alone space, seize the chance and speak to yourself. It may sounds crazy but it's a very useful way. Speaking with perfect grammar and difficult vocabularies should not be the result that you're after for, but expressing your ideas.

No matter what language you're learning, being able to express what you're thinking in mind in a non-native language should always be the goal that you're after for. Then you may think about the rest of the things.

Accent is also be taken into consider in language learning process. It should not be a burden; it's something that you can think about after getting the hang of the language. Getting rid of Manglish should be the first thing before considering which accent to adapt.
